STEM 501 Wrap Up and Reflections - Middle School Group
This checklist is a copy of what you’ll find in Edmodo.

Step One: Post and Review
- Put your lesson, design brief, and handouts into ONE MS Word document or better, in HYPERLINKED Google Documents (I’ll help with this).
- Post your lesson to this thread in Edmodo. You WILL NOT comment on teaching the lesson here … that’s the next step.
- Offer some thoughts about your colleagues’ lessons. Consider these questions as you reflect on your colleagues’ lessons:
- How does this lesson use the engineering design process to engage the students?
- How does this lesson use the engineering design process to push students to think creatively and critically?
- How does the design challenge build relevance to the required science and math content?
- Are the standards addressed in an authentic way? Are the connections between the science – technology – engineering – math contrived or natural?
- What suggestions do you have for improvements?
- What do you love about the lesson?
- Read your colleagues comments about YOUR lesson and respond to any questions.
- Make any changes or improvements you think needed to your lesson.
StepTwo: Reflections on Teaching the Lesson and Student Feedback
- Describe and reflect on your experiences teaching the lesson. Include any examples of student work you may have (a page in their STEM notebook/Pictures/Comments). Consider these questions as you reflect on this experience:
- Before teaching: What did you do PRIOR to teaching the lesson to prepare for the lesson? Was your preparation to teach this lesson any different than other lessons you teach?
- During the lesson: What did you notice about your students’ engagement in the lesson? Understanding of the content? Understanding of the engineering design process? What went well during the lesson?
- Next time: Will you teach this lesson again? (Why/why not?) What would you do differently the next time you teach this lesson? How will you modify and change the lesson?
- Return to your original post to answer questions from colleagues.
Step Three: Reflections on STEM Notebooks
- Describe how you’ve decided to use STEM notebooks with your students. Consider these questions in your reflection:
- Are you grading or will you grade these notebooks? Discuss why you’ve decided to grade or not grade the notebooks. If you are grading the notebooks, please share your rubric or explain your grading policy.
- How are you or will you be using the notebooks? Are they used in more than one class?
- What management systems do you have in place for using the notebooks? Where are they stored? Do students get them out automatically? What is your routine?
- How might you use the notebooks more intentionally? More effectively?
- What role are the notebooks playing in your class?
- What struggles do you have regarding the use of the STEM notebooks?
- How might your use of STEM notebooks evolve?
- Return to your original post to answer questions from colleagues.
